One of the most common points of confusion for vehicle owners is thinking traffic insurance and kasko are interchangeable. In fact, they serve completely different purposes and together provide full protection.

Traffic Insurance

Traffic insurance (Compulsory Motor Third-Party Liability) is required by law and covers damage you cause to the other party (people and their vehicles) in an accident. It does not cover damage to your own vehicle.

Kasko

Kasko is optional and covers damage to your own vehicle — collision, theft, fire, and natural disasters are all included. Even with traffic insurance, if you don't have kasko you'll have to pay for repairs to your own vehicle in an at-fault accident.

The Difference in Short

  • Traffic insurance: mandatory, covers the other party's damage.
  • Kasko: optional, covers your own vehicle's damage.

The safest approach is to carry kasko alongside the legally required traffic insurance, matched to your vehicle's value.
